Soccer Betting - Chelsea look to extend lead against tough Man City team

Posted on 02/25/2010

Online betting players will be treated to a massive game at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s early fixture, as Premiership leaders Chelsea will host Manchester City in a battle of top-four clubs. Chelsea holds a one-point lead over Manchester United in the standings, while Man City is tied with Tottenham for the final Champions League spot, and a win for Man City would be good for both Manchester teams, but it’s not likely.

Man City vs Chelsea odds – Saturday, February 27, 7:45 AM ET

Man City (12-10-4) drew 0-0 with Liverpool in a tepid draw, which was their third straight draw. Man City is tied with Stoke City with 10 draws now in the Premiership, and they may wonder about those dropped points later in the season. The Blues may get Carlos Tevez back in the lineup after he missed the match against Liverpool due to personal problems, and with Craig Bellamy and Roque Santa Cruz both battling injuries, Man City is short up front in attack, which wastes the play of winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Chelsea (19-4-4) recovered from a 2-1 loss at Everton to win 2-0 at Wolves last weekend, and they still have Wednesday’s Champions League match with Inter Milan and Jose Mourinho, who managed Chelsea from 2004 to 2007 before famously leaving. Didier Drogba scored in each half against Wolves, and the Ivory Coast striker now has six goals in four games since returning from the African Cup of Nations. Drogba is now just two goals behind Man United’s Wayne Rooney for the lead in the Premiership, and he has to be on the short list for Player of the Year. He may have to carry more of a load if Frank Lampard hasn’t recovered from a virus.

Chelsea is a -200 favorite according to bookmaker odds (betus reviews), while Man City comes in at +708, and a draw is listed at +354. Man City’s 2-1 win at home over Chelsea on December 5th was their first win in 10 matches between the two, of which Chelsea had won eight and drawn one. Man City keeper Shay Given stopped a Lampard penalty with seven minutes left, while Emmanuel Adebayor made up for his eight-minute own goal with a strike in the 37th minute. Tevez then hit a free kick in the 56th minute, and the stage was set for Man City to stage a famous win. It will be tough for Man City to get the sweep, as Chelsea has 12 wins and a draw in 13 games at Stamford Bridge this year, outscoring the opposition 39-8. Man City has three wins and four losses in 13 away games with a goal difference of -1, and the shaky defense will feel the wrath of Drogba.

Lines betting pick: Chelsea -200
