FIFA to hand out profit shares

Posted on 01/28/2011

FIFA is giving each soccer nation an extra $300,000 as a share of profits from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

FIFA says the payment is in addition to the $250,000 every country gets annually toward its soccer development and running costs. Brunei is currently suspended and is excluded.

Each of FIFA's six continental confederations gets an extra $2.5 million.

FIFA's annual financial report in March is expected to reveal total commercial revenues of about $3.4 billion for the four-year cycle of 2007-2010.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter is up for re-election June 1 for a fourth four-year term in office.

No challenger has declared an intention to run against Blatter. The deadline for candidates to declare is April 1.
