Leeds' Diskin faces four-game ban

Posted on 03/23/2009

Leeds Rhinos' Matt Diskin faces a four-game ban after being charged with an alleged dangerous tackle during their 26-18 defeat at St Helens.

The hooker is alleged to have used a 'chicken-wing' tackle that places undue pressure on the joint of an opponent.

Diskin will appear before the Rugby Football League's disciplinary committee on Tuesday.

Anything more than a one-game ban will see him miss the Challenge Cup clash with Saints at Headingley.

Meanwhile Rhino's team-mate Ryan Bailey has been cleared of any wrong doing over his tackle on Saints prop Maurie Fa'asavalu, which left him with a jaw injury.

The RFL match review panel ruled that Fa'asavalu dipped into the tackle - and although Bailey did make contact with his head, it was with his shoulder and not an elbow or forearm and therefore was not illegal.

The incident was one of several clashes in one of the most physical contests so far in Super League XIV.

St Helens centre Lee Gilmour has been told he will not face further action for the grapple tackle on Leeds centre Lee Smith that prompted an outbreak of fighting, and Leeds pair Carl Ablett and Brent Webb avoided punishment for similar offences.

Elsewhere, Castleford Tigers full-back Ryan McGoldrick has been given a caution for use of his forearm in his side's 19-18 win at Hull FC, while team-mate Mitchell Sargent and Huddersfield Giants hooker Scott Moore are to receive warning letters for making dangerous throws.
