Canucks' Mikael Samuelsson sidelined ![]()
Vancouver Canucks forward Mikael Samuelsson is out indefinitely after having surgery to repair an adductor tendon and a sports hernia.
The injury had nagged Samuelsson all season and he hadn't played since aggravating it in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against Nashville on May 7.
General manager Mike Gillis said in a statement Thursday that the team consulted with doctors and they advised that immediate surgery was the "best long-term decision" for Samuelsson.
The right wing had been dropped to the fourth line but was still playing the point on the top power-play unit. He had one goal and two assists in 11 playoff games.
Samuelsson was signed as a free agent two summers ago in large part because of his Stanley Cup-winning experience with Detroit.
