Jonathan Roy fight ![]()
There are few more memorable moments in NHL Hockey fight history then when Patric Roy slugged it out with Mike Vernon. A great fight indeed. I was at that game, and the crowd exploded with glee when the two goalies danced around the center of the rink.
Let's not forget the fight with Chris Osgood. That was another great goalie fight, which we all felt priviledged to witness. That fight left us all feeling like we just walked out of Rocky for the first time. What a buzz it created!
Now his goaltending son, Jonathan, is creating his own buzz in the hockey world for his own fighting. So did the crowd enjoy this fight? Not one bit. Why not you ask? Roy skated across the rink, grabbed the Chicoutimi goaltender, Bobby Nadeau, ripped off his mask and began to pummel the cowaring player. Nadeau tried to cover himself as Roy hit him repeatedly in the face and body, even as he was laying on the ice.
Was this what pissed off the crowd? No, not entirely. After the beating, Roy skated off, giving the booing crowd the finger(s). As he skates off, you can see his father, who is his Coach, pumping his arms in enthusiastic praise.
The league is going to announce later Tuesday whether Roy will be disciplined in addition to the two game penalty he received for game misconduct.
