Manning will massacre brutal Titans pass defense, stay undefeated

Get NFL Tickets on StubHub!Sportsbook bettors have watched division rivals Tennessee and Indianapolis head to opposite sides of the spectrum. The Colts are undefeated and leading the AFC South, while the Titans are searching for their first win and are holding down the basement in the division. Tennessee's chances of making the playoffs are almost zero but, if a miracle rally is going to happen, the team must win this game.

NFL betting line: Colts -3.5

What a difference a year makes? After racking up 13 wins and a division title with a smashing defense and brilliant running game, the Titans have fallen flat on their faces. The departures of defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and, more importantly, defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, has obviously hurt the team considerably. After finishing second in fewest points allowed a year ago, Tennessee has been gashed for almost 32 points per game in its last three outings.

It's been almost as bad on offense. Tennessee has failed to score more than 17 points in three out of four games, and many fans are calling for Kerry Collins to be benched. The veteran quarterback is completely just 56 percent of his passes while turning the ball over seven times. Running back Chris Johnson leads the NFL in rushing but he can't do it alone—look no further than a Week 2 game against Houston, when Johnson racked up nearly 300 yards and three scores in a losing effort.

Offense, of course, never seems to be a problem in Indianapolis. Peyton Manning leads the NFL in passing yards, having surpassed the 300-yard mark in all four games. Dallas Clark has been brilliant since Anthony Gonzalez went down with a knee injury in Week 1, while Reggie Wayne has been almost as impressive. If there's a long-term concern it's the running game, which is averaging just 84 yards per contest.

Indianapolis is very middle-of-the-pack in yards allowed, but the team has surrendered just 15.5 points per game. The Colts are tied for fourth in the NFL with a dozen sacks; pass-rushing specialist Dwight Freeney is nursing a quad injury and played just 17 plays last week, but he was active and recorded his fifth sack of the season.

Betting services will indicate the Titans defense has been absolutely scorched this season, allowing 282 yards per game plus 10 touchdowns, while picking off just three passes. With Peyton Manning and Co. coming to town, that's a recipe for disaster. Manning will strafe the Titans defense, effectively destroying any playoff hope Tennessee had left.
