PGA Championship Betting - Can anyone catch Tiger? ![]()
Taking Tiger Woods’ sportsbook golf odds is a no-brainer, but when he’s on a run like he is right now, it’s difficult to go against him. If you need more reasons why you should make him your betting choice when the PGA Championship tees off at Hazeltine on Thursday morning, here’s five to get you thinking.
PGA Championship Odds – Thursday, August 13
1) He finished second at Hazeltine in 2002
Back in 2002, Rich Beem held off Woods for a one-stroke victory, and don’t think Woods forgets about that. The thing about Tiger is, he may remember the losses more than he remembers the wins. For example, he’s won five of the 12 events he’s entered, but you can bet that missing the cut at Turnberry in the British Open gnaws at him. Which leads into No.2….
2) He’s won three of his last four starts
Woods has won two straight since Turnberry, shooting a combined -32 at Warwick Hills and Firestone. This will be his third event in a row, and it’s scary to think that the more he plays, the more he wins.
3) Hazeltine is a bomber’s paradise
Before you make your sports betting picks, you should know that Hazeltine is the longest course to ever host a major championship. This is right up Woods’ alley, as he can afford to miss the fairway due to his length. He’ll also be able to go for the green in two, which comes in handy at Hazeltine, which has three holes of 600 yards or more.
4) He hasn’t won a major yet this year
In 12 years of major championships as a pro since 1996, Woods has gone winless in the majors only three times: 1998 (he had three top-10s), and 2003 and 2004 (swing changes). He finished T-6 in The Masters and US Open before missing the cut at Turnberry Bet on him to change that this weekend.
5) He needs a challenge
And he’ll get it. Hunter Mahan has four top-sixes in his last five starts, Steve Stricker and Angel Cabrera played well at Firestone last week, and you know Phil Mickelson will be in there somewhere. However, like he proved last week against Padraig Harrington, Woods usually steps up to the plate. He’s as close to a safe bet as your betting software could ever recommend.
