North Carolina Tar Heels at Duke Blue Devils CBB College Basketball Betting Preview

Posted Tony Garibaldi on 02/10/2011

This ACC rivalry hasn’t lived up to its storied past the last few seasons. However, with North Carolina slowly on the rise and Duke still trying to find a steady backcourt rotation, things could get crazy in Cameron Indoor Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Blue Devils are 2-1 in their last three Tobacco Road Rivalry games, posting a 3-0 ATS mark. The last time the Tar Heels won in Durham, they embarrassed Duke 101-87 as 2-point favorites back in February 2009. Over the last 10 contests between these schools, UNC has gone 6-4 against the spread.

The Tar Heels haven’t skipped a beat since starting point guard Larry Drew announced he was leaving the program. Head coach Roy Williams inserted freshman point guard Kendall Marshall into the first five, getting nine points and 16 rebounds from him in UNC’s 89-69 win over Florida State as 6.5-point favorites, extending the team’s winning streak to five games, going 4-1 ATS.

Duke has point guard problems of its own. The Blue Devils still haven’t settled into a rotation since star freshman Kyrie Irving went down with a foot injury back in December. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski is giving first-year guard Tyler Thornton a run at point guard. Thornton isn’t going to spark the offense, but is a tough perimeter defender who will likely be assigned to pressure Marshall into mistakes Wednesday.
