Georgetown Hoyas at Syracuse Orange CBB College Basketball Betting Preview

Posted on 02/10/2011

This rivalry is the cornerstone of Big East basketball, between two of the conference’s premier programs, which currently rank No. 11 and No. 12 in the Top 25 poll.

Syracuse has the edge in recent meetings, winning and covering the college basketball pointspread in three straight games before falling to Georgetown 91-84 as a 5.5-point favorite in the conference tournament last March. That marked just the third time in the past 10 meetings the Hoyas have covered the spread.

The Orange have been able to pick up the pieces from their four-game losing skid, stringing together back-to-back road wins, most recently defeating South Florida 72-49 as 8-point favorites. Syracuse moved the ball well, totaling 16 assists and was aggressive, getting to the foul line 23 times while knocking down 18 of those free throws (78 percent).

Georgetown’s efficient shooting and 3-point touch will be a much bigger test for the Orange and their 2-3 zone defense. The Hoyas extended their winning streak to six games with an 83-81 victory over Providence on Saturday, but failed to cover the 11.5-point spread – the second straight outing Georgetown has fallen short for bettors. The Hoyas didn’t get the same lift off the bench like previous games during this winning streak, and will need the reserves to show up if they want to steal a win in the Carrier Dome.
