UFC Betting - Lesnar favored to get revenge against Mir

Posted on 07/07/2009

UFC fight card betting is the play of the weekend as MMA’s largest company prepares to hold its 100th event in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The main event is a heavyweight tilt between champion Brock Lesnar and interim champion Frank Mir in an effort to decide who is the main heavyweight in the UFC, and Lesnar is the betting favorite in your offshore sportsbook.

UFC 100 odds – Saturday, July 11, 9:00 PM ET

Lesnar (3-1) has certainly made his mark in UFC in his short time, and he hasn’t fought since taking the title away from Randy Couture back in November with a dominating display of strength and athleticism. The former WWE star was eager to show that he wasn’t just an actor with some size: Lesnar is a former college wrestling champion and it was only a matter of time before he caught on to MMA. Even in his fight against Mir, which was only the second of his career, Lesnar was controlling the fight, but his lack of experience cost him the match when Mir caught him with a knee bar.

Mir’s (12-3) last fight came against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 92 in December, when he won the interim title with a series of strikes, which made him the first person to beat Nogueira by TKO. Mir is a very well-rounded fighter with the ability to land strikes, but he’s also got a very good submission game which has landed him seven of his 12 victories. Still, handicapping software isn’t giving him a good chance of a second win against Lesnar, but if you want to take a risk with your sports picks, it’s not like he’s a bad fighter.

UFC odds have Lesnar as a -225 favorite in this contest, and you can bet that he’ll be fully prepared for Mir’s submissions in this match. Mir improved his striking greatly for the Nogueira fight, but it’ll be interesting to see if he can trade punches with Lesnar, who is as impressive of a physical specimen as the UFC has ever seen. Even on the ground, Lesnar has the advantage because of his size and wrestling background, and he’ll be motivated to no end to avenge that loss. Make Lesnar your sportsbook UFC betting pick this weekend.
