Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense is busy gearing up for the 2007 Preakness Stakes, the middle jewel of thoroughbred horse racing’s Triple Crown.

Fresh on the hoofs of the 133rd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, the 132nd running of the Preakness Stakes is set for May 19 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

Wagering website Sportsbooks.ro will have all the odds sports bettors need for the second leg of the world-famous Triple Crown races.

Street Sense, trained by Carl Nafzger, won the Run for the Roses on May 5, followed by Hard Spun in second and Curlin in third.

All three horses were on the track this week preparing for the Preakness. Street Sense galloped about a mile and an eighth at Churchill Downs. The son of Street Cry will train at Churchill for his Preakness preparations and is expected to arrive at Pimlico Wednesday, May 16.

Meanwhile at Delaware Park in Wilmington, Delaware, Hard Spun jogged a half mile and galloped a mile. Trainer Larry Jones was reportedly pleased with the way the son of Danzig has responded after his runner-up performance in Louisville.

And Steve Asmussen took Curlin out for a one-mile jog at Churchill Downs.

Other possible starters from the Kentucky Derby are Sedgefield (fifth) and Teuflesberg (17th).

At least six new horses are expected for the Preakness Stakes: Xchanger (Tesio winner), Slew’s Tizzy (Lexington Stakes winner), King of the Roxy (second in Santa Anita Derby), Chelokee (third in Florida Derby), C P West (second in Withers Stakes) and either Flying First Class (Derby Trial winner) or Starbase (second in Lexington Stakes).

The Preakness is limited to 14 starters. There have been 10 or more starters in 13 of the past 15 years.

The third jewel in horse racing’s Triple Crown is the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York on June 9, 2007.
